Minnesota-based club to compete in Heartland Division

STILLWATER, Minn.- The United Soccer League (USL) today announced St. Croix SC as the latest club to join USL League Two. The club will compete in the Heartland Division beginning in the 2022 season and become the second League Two team out of Minnesota.

“Everyone at St. Croix Soccer Club, from our leadership through our coaching staff, players and families, welcomes the opportunity to join the USL League Two,” said Nathan Klonecki, Executive Director of St. Croix SC.  “USL continues to evolve and impress in the league's efforts to form a bridge between the highest levels of youth soccer and professional soccer, and our club and community will benefit immensely from the advent and growth of the new team.”

Since its foundation in 1984, St. Croix SC has served as an elite destination club for players across Minnesota and western Wisconsin, while always honoring its commitment to offering outstanding programming to players in the St. Croix Valley. The club prides itself on introducing the game of soccer to youth of all ages and skill levels with the purpose of providing the opportunity for each player to develop to their full potential. St. Croix SC strives to maintain an environment that embodies the core values of integrity, leadership, perseverance, respect and teamwork while enhancing self-esteem, promoting self-confidence and cultivating a lifelong passion for the game.

In joining League Two, the club will add a pre-professional pathway to its programming, offering its existing academy system and its players the opportunity to pursue playing careers at the next level while continuing the club’s mission of developing players to their full potential.

“The addition of St. Croix SC speaks volumes to the league's continued growth in the Heartland Division,” said Joel Nash, Vice President of USL League Two. “Players now have more opportunities than ever to continue their playing careers at the next level and we are excited to see the pool of talent that will come out of Minnesota. St. Croix’s leadership is committed to providing its players the best platform for player development and the club will no doubt prove its strength in the upcoming season.”

Through membership in League Two, St. Croix SC will give its players access to a proven pathway toward a career in professional soccer. Beyond player development, the USL also provides pathways for coaches, executives, club staff and communities to continue their growth within the game.

“We have a long tradition of helping our players reach their soccer aspirations, and the USL League Two team will form the pinnacle of our development model going forward,” said Klonecki. “We are especially excited to be able to continue to nurture our players' aspirations beyond the youth level, and to have the opportunity to watch these young men play in front of and represent our community.”
