The Michigan Collegiate Soccer Society’s Future of U.S. Soccer Conference is set to take place on Saturday, November 14, and League Two club AFC Ann Arbor is taking an active role in driving discussions on the advancement of the sport in America.

The club is serving as the conference’s title sponsor, and will have two members of its leadership speak on panels: club chair Bilal Saeed will speak on the Building Anti-Racist Soccer Clubs panel, while co-owner Mike Lorenc will join the Business of the Beautiful Game panel.

“Having the USL BPA and the Sporting Justice Collective represented on this panel allows us to examine player experiences alongside scholarly thought to discuss actionable steps clubs can take to become anti-racist,” said Saeed. “It’s time for clubs and leagues to take a more active role in being anti-racist to alleviate some of the burden put on Black and Brown players.”

Brandon Miller and Hugh Roberts, both of whom are Charlotte Independence players, USL Black Players Alliance executive committee members and League Two products, will join Saeed on the Building Anti-Racist Soccer Clubs panel, alongside three other speakers.

“I'm really looking forward to discussing this topic with everyone on the panel,” said Miller. “Developing a model to build anti-racist soccer clubs is important because it will open doors for a large group of talented people who want to be involved in sports.”

The Building Anti-Racist Soccer Clubs panel will take place from 2:30-3:30 pm ET on Saturday. The virtual conference is free to attend, and spots can be reserved by clicking here.
