It’s no secret that League Two products are key to just about every club in USL League One - 17 out of the 22 players on the roster of the title-winning Greenville Triumph SC team played in League Two during the developmental stage of their careers. In a league with over 100 League Two alums, here are the 10 who shined brightest during the 2020 season.
As in 2019, Jaye was again League One’s top shot-stopper in 2020. He kept a league-most nine clean sheets and made 32 saves, playing every minute of Triumph SC’s campaign and helping lead the side to a first-place finish.
Trimmingham was the anchor of League One’s second-best defense, a unit which allowed only 14 goals in 16 matches. In 13 appearances this season, the Trinidad and Tobago international made 70 clearances and succeeded in 83 percent of his tackles.
When you look at how well Richmond did before Antley got injured and how their form dropped after he did, it’s easy to see how important he was to his team. He chipped in 26 clearances and 17 interceptions in just nine appearances, and got up the flank well to provide three assists as well.
Morrell had a truly special season, earning the league’s Player of the Month award for October. He scored five goals and assisted on six more, the most goal contributions of any player in League One.
The League One Player of the Month in August, Vanacore-Decker was the driving force behind Omaha’s success as a first-year club. He tied Morrell for most assists in the league with six, and scored three goals of his own to boot.
Dennis moved from Tormenta to Tucson last offseason and settled right in with the Arizona club. He was one of the league’s best passers over the course of the season, racking up five assists and leading the league in chances created with 36. He completed 82 percent of his passes overall and also contributed defendivel, winning 78 percent of his tackles.
Hernandez was the creative spark for Chattanooga, providing a solid statistical output of four goals and four assists in just 12 appearances. He made his side much more dangerous going forward when he was on the pitch.
McLean’s first season as a professional went about as well as he could have dreamt. The Australian striker led the League One title-winners in scoring with seven goals, and has a bright future in front of him.
On an Omaha side that struggled to score at times this season, Conway’s ability to do so was often his team’s saving grace. He scored the stoppage time winner on the season’s final day to clinch second place for the Owls, and the five other goals he notched on the year all came at important times as well.
Rennicks was a midseason addition to Revs II and played a big part in New England’s late surge in the standings. He tallied four goals, an assist and eight chances created in only eight appearances.
