See which collegiate League Two alums are in top form

In our College Rewind piece, we recap standout performances from League Two alumni in college soccer. As the NCAA season rolls on, here’s who’s been catching our eye.

MONTES FREE KICK HELPS HOYAS TO VICTORY

Jacob Montes had an efficient summer with Treasure Coast Tritons in League Two play, making their midfield run smoothly in six appearances with the club. Back at Georgetown for his junior season, Montes has been stellar for the Hoyas, who are currently on a six-game winning streak. He scored the first goal of an impressive 3-0 road win over St. John’s this week, a brilliant free kick that beat the wall and snuck inside the far post. He also assisted on a goal from another former Triton Derek Dodson. Montes picked up Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week honors for his efforts.

POPOVIC AND YBARRA LEAD WOLVERINES TO RIVALRY WIN

Former Flint City midfielder Nebojsa Popovic was a key piece of the Bucks’ title run, chipping in three goals on the season. On Tuesday, he put in an excellent performance for Michigan against archrivals Michigan State, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win for the Wolverines. Both were assisted by his Bucks teammate Marc Ybarra, who also contributed to the team’s clean sheet as a member of a strong defense. The rivalry win was the latest positive result in a strong run for Michigan, who have lost just twice in their last 12 games.

LIMA NETS ACROBATIC LATE WINNER FOR PROVIDENCE

Paulo Lima had a solid summer playing for Boston Bolts in League Two, and the sophomore from Portugal is now turning in a strong campaign for the Providence Friars. Lima had a massive week, netting a goal and an assist in an important 2-0 victory over Villanova. But it was his acrobatic late heroics against Creighton that grabbed the headlines, as Lima netted a golden goal to give the Friars a 3-2 overtime win. After controlling the ball with this chest, Lima leaped and hit the ball on the half volley while falling sideways to net his fourth goal of the season.
