The rising junior at Lander anchored a strong SC United Bantams defense

SC United Bantams defender Kyle Ferguson has been named the 2019 USL League Two Young Player of the Year. The award is given to the league's best player under 20 years old. A rising junior at Lander University, Ferguson was the linchpin of a solid Bantams defense that helped the team qualify for the playoffs.

“Kyle had a fantastic season for the Bantams and was a key figure in our drive for the playoffs. In his second season with the team, he showed strong leadership skills, composure on the ball, aggressive defensive skills, and also contributed with game winning goals,” said Lee Morris, head coach and director of player development for SC United Bantams. “His fierce determination to win, paired with his will to work hard, makes him a brilliant role model for all the children and supporters here at SC United, and this award is truly well deserved.”

A native of Hamilton, Scotland, Ferguson supplemented his impressive defensive performances this season by scoring two goals. He was selected to the All-Peach Belt Conference second-team last year after a standout sophomore campaign for Lander, where he formed a center-back partnership with fellow Deep South Division center back Jordan Skelton.
