After extra time and a late penalty kick, Reading bounced back against Tormenta to win

On a shockingly cool evening in Statesboro, Georgia, Reading United AC and South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 battled out for a full 120 minutes that saw Reading go through from a late penalty kick.

Tormenta got off to a hot start knocking in the first goal off a quick corner kick routine that found defender Daniel Strachan with a run at the near post to take the lead in the 12th minute. Just two minutes later they would strike again this time off a quick throw that came to JJ Donnelly whos weaving run allowed him to set up Adrian Billhardt for the 2-0 lead.

It would look like one-way traffic for Tormenta who held a lot of the momentum for the rest of the half and would take their two-goal lead into the half.

On the other side of halftime, Tormenta looked to offer more of the same but Reading quickly turned the game in their favor pressuring Tormenta heavily as the game wore on.

They found their breakthrough in the 70th as super-sub Yaya Fane cut the Tormenta lead in half. In the 84th minute, Reading grabbed the equalizer through yet another sub in Bokary Bagayojo who fought through the Tormenta backline to even things at two apiece.

The first half of extra time was evenly contested with decent opportunities on either side of the field but nothing coming from it.

The second extra time period had more of the same with quick counters from both Reading and Tormenta that looked dangerous. Right at the death one of those dangerous Reading attacks turned into a penalty kick as Tor Saunders mistimed his run and took down a Bagayojo. Felipe Hideki snuck his penalty just under Saunders for the 3-2 lead and the win for Reading.

Reading United will now travel to Flint, Michigan to take on the Flint City Bucks in the USL League Two Final next Saturday.
