Bucks earn 1-0 win with a goal from the penalty spot

In a tightly-contested semi-final showdown in Flint on Saturday night, forward Yuri Farkas’ 78th minute goal from the penalty spot proved to be the difference as the Flint City Bucks defeated FC Golden State Force 1-0 to advance to the League Two final next weekend. It’s the Bucks’ first trip to the biggest game in North American pre-professional club soccer since they won it all back in 2016.

Both teams created chances in the first half, but neither was able to find a way to break the deadlock in front of 4,633 fans at Atwood Stadium. The game opened up after half-time, and Flint got their chance when David Achaerandio was brought down in the box. Yuri Farkas stepped up and calmly slotted home the spot kick to give the hosts the lead, which they would hold until the final whistle despite a late offensive barrage from Golden State.

The Bucks move on to face the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final in Statesboro, Georgia between South Georgia Tormenta 2 and Reading United (8 p.m. EST).
