2016 PDL All-Central Conference Team

Bucks forward Cicerone, Menace goalkeeper Campbell headline Central’s Team

TAMPA, Fla. – The 2016 PDL All-Central Conference Team is littered with talent in every position, while five teams are represented across the Heartland and Great Lakes Divisions.

The Central Conference’s co-leading goal-scorers, Russell Cicerone and Sven Koenig, headline the group of forwards on the team, while Des Moines Menace goalkeeper Nico Campbell was voted the best between the pipes.

All-Conference honors are based solely off regular-season performance, and players were voted on by teams within their respective conference.

PDL All-Central Conference

GK – Nico Campbell, Des Moines Menace: Valparaiso University’s Campbell, ranked 14th in the fifth edition of the 2016 PDL Top Prospects list, started nine games during the 2016 regular season. The 20-year-old netminder made 36 saves, recorded a 0.44 goals against average and helped the Menace clinch the Heartland regular-season title.
D – Alhassan Abubakar, Michigan Bucks: The University of Dayton’s Abubakar, ranked fourth in the latest PDL Top Prospects, has been one of the keys to the Bucks’ success during the 2016 season. The defender appeared in 12 games, helping the Bucks earn nine shutouts.
D – Tom Owens, Michigan Bucks: Owens started 11 games for the Bucks, assisting two goals. The 24-year-old secured eight shutouts to see the Bucks finish atop the Great Lakes.
D – Austin Ledbetter, Des Moines Menace: Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Ledbetter started 10 games for the Menace during the season. The 20-year-old defender was instrumental in helping the Menace record seven shutouts and clinch the Heartland regular-season title.
D – Moustapha Fofana, Derby City Rovers:
Lindsey Wilson College’s Fofana played nine games for the Rovers in 2016, scoring once and assisting twice in PDL play. The 24-year-old defender helped the team record seven wins in the difficult Great Lakes Division.
M – Aleksi Pahkasalo, Derby City Rovers: Lindsey Wilson College’s Pahkasalo bossed the midfield for the Rovers in 2016. The 24-year-old scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 12 games.
M – Anthony Putrus, Thunder Bay Chill: Putrus netted nine goals during the regular season for the Chill, helping the club finish second in the Heartland. The midfielder also assisted three goals for the Chill.
M – Sergio Camargo, K-W United FC: Camargo, ranked 10th in the fifth edition of the PDL Top Prospects, scored four goals and provided three assists during the regular season.
F – Sven Koenig, K-W United FC: Hawaii Pacific University’s Koenig scored 12 goals – tied for the most scored in the Central Conference – during the season.
The 20-year-old also provided one assist to see K-W United finish second in the Great Lakes.
F – Sullivan Silva, Thunder Bay Chill: Silva played 13 games for the Chill during the season, scoring 11 goals to lead the Canadian club to a PDL Playoffs berth. The forward also provided two assists.
F – Russell Cicerone, Michigan Bucks: The University of Buffalo’s Cicerone, ranked 21st in the latest PDL Top Prospects list, co-led the conference in goals scored with 12. The 21-year-old attacker also provided three assists to help the Bucks finish with more points than any other team in the PDL during the regular season.
